Approyo to Provide SAP HANA as a Service inside PCM Infrastructure

Approyo, SAP America and PCM have partnered to create a new subscription-based offering of the SAP HANA platform code-named “samurai”. In addition to providing the in-memory computing platform as a service, they will offer managed services, licenses and full infrastructure capabilities.

Samurai is aimed at clients that are looking to implement SAP HANA or current SAP HANA clients, who have not started their deployment or fully utilized their license capacity. It will include Approyo’s managed and implementation services, PCM’s SAP HANA systems architecture and infrastructure services, and licenses from SAP. The primary service provider will be Approyo, managing client relationships.

Samurai builds upon SAP CEO Bill McDermott’s comments at the company’s annual Sapphire Now conference in Orlando, Florida in June, where he acknowledged that the company’s portfolio of offerings had become too complex, and that it would attempt to simplify things by consolidating offerings in enterprise cloud services. SAP HANA combines database, data processing and application platform, as well as tools for business analytics, all done in-memory, which gives it high performance.

“With Approyo serving as the single point of contact, clients will find it easier to deploy and manage SAP HANA in the PCM facilities,” said Marcus Retrac, President of Approyo. “This new joint initiative will be managed through Approyo’s SAP Business team and provides another example of how we can simplify the process for clients to leverage SAP HANA and Approyo services for companies of any size.”

SAP HANA – The Basics

What is SAP HANA?

SAP HANA combines database, data processing, and application platform capabilities in-memory. The platform provides libraries for predictive, planning, text processing, spatial, and business analytics.

This architecture enables converged OLTP and OLAP data processing within a single in-memory column-based data store with ACID compliance, while eliminating data redundancy and latency. By providing advanced capabilities, such as predictive text analytics, spatial processing, data virtualization, on the same architecture, it further simplifies application development and processing across big data sources and structures. This makes SAP HANA the most suitable platform for building and deploying next-generation, realtime applications and analytics.

Why is SAP HANA important?

Enterprises collect large volumes of structured data via legacy ERP, CRM, and other systems. Most struggle to make use of the data while spending large sums to store and protect it. One option to make use of this data is to extract, transform, and load subsets into a traditional enterprise data warehouse for analysis. This process is time-consuming and requires significant investment in related proprietary hardware. The result is often an expensive, bloated EDW that provides little more than backward-looking views of company data.

SAP HANA offers enterprises a new approach to harnessing the value of all that corporate data. As mentioned above, HANA runs on inexpensive commodity hardware from any of several SAP partners, including IBM, Dell, and HP. Its data replication and integration capabilities vastly speed up the process of loading data into the database. And because it uses in-memory storage, applications on top of HANA can access data in near-real time, meaning end-users can gain meaningful insight while there is still time to take meaningful action. HANA can also perform predictive analytics to help organizations plan for future market developments.
